As your second trimester comes to an end and your third trimester begins, remaining comfortable can be increasingly difficult. Coupled with the summer heat, it can become nigh-on impossible to enjoy this time. But no matter which trimester you’re currently in, there are some key tips to surviving your summer pregnancy.
Stay hydrated
As one of the most basic and fundamental elements of being pregnant, remaining hydrated is important no matter the weather, but it becomes more of a concern during the heat when it’s easy to forget to drink more water and stay out of the sun. Whilst out and about and enjoying the weather, remember to take an extra bottle of water with you and to keep topping your fluids during the day.
Put your feet up
With the warm weather, it’s likely that your legs and ankles are going to feel more swollen than usual. Not only should you keep out of the sun if you can, but be sure to put your feet up as often as you can to help alleviate the stress your legs and ankles are under. This will also help to reduce the swelling in these areas and can go a long way to helping you feel less stressed too.
Go for a swim
When you’re feeling hot and bothered, nothing helps cool you down better than going for a swim. Remember to slather yourself in a high factor sun cream and keep your head covered with a stylish hat too. If you’re spending the whole day getting in and out the pool, then remember to reapply the sun cream as necessary. Or if you don’t fancy getting in the pool completely, try just dipping your feet in.

Give your wardrobe a makeover
Tight-fitting clothes are going to be increasingly uncomfortable as your bump grows and really, the only solution is to give yourself a wardrobe makeover. Invest some money in loose flowing clothes that help to keep you airy and cool. Maxi dresses and maxi skirts are a great choice and will help you feel stylish and sexy too.
The early bird catches the worm
If you have errands to run or want to do some exercise, then trying doing what you need to in the morning before the midday heat strikes. Being more productive in the morning will also likely result in ticking more tasks of your to-do list as the afternoon heat and sense of lethargy can often take over and leave you feeling frustrated that nothing’s been done.
Stay protected
As mentioned when getting in the pool, keep yourself protected from the worst of the sun as much as possible. This can include hats, sunglasses and sun cream, but don’t be afraid to cool off in the shade as well. Being comfortable is incredibly important and it’s not good for you or your baby to be exposed to the sun for any prolonged period of time.
