Stem Cell Therapy: A Non-surgical Solution to Torn Ligaments

Just seven months ago, Larry Smith was struggling to walk because of knee problems —a torn ACL, MCL and meniscus. Mr Smith had a history of knee problems stretching back more than 40-years, as a result of an injury that occurred while in the National Guard.

The pain from these injuries was immense and greatly affected his mobility. He also developed arthritis in one knee, causing it to swell up to twice the size of the other knee.  Incredibly, Larry is almost pain-free after receiving stem cell therapy.

It wasn’t the first time that Larry had a surgery performed to repair his knees. He had also tried other techniques including regular corticosteroid shots to reduce pain levels and soaking his knee in water with Epsom salts — nothing worked.

Larry had heard some stories about the success of stem cell therapy on other patients so decided to give it a shot. His doctor told him he was a good candidate for the treatment and Larry was eager to see if it would work.

This form of stem cell therapy involves injecting stem cells into the body, close to the site of the injury. Stem cells are the building blocks of the body, differentiating into other types of cells when they see damaged areas in the body. When injected into the knees, the stem cells see the damage and begin to reduce inflammation as well as repairing and regenerating tissue.

Stem cells are also capable of singling other cells in the body, engaging them in the healing process. Although scientists don’t understand precisely why this kind of stem cell therapy works, the success rates are very high.

A few months after receiving the treatment, Larry has no pain in his right knee and a small amount of pain in his left. His swollen knee is greatly reduced in size and he is enjoying his new-found mobility.
