Many women start to research ways to lose their baby weight before they even deliver baby. Some women even avoid getting pregnant because of the weight gain. This is a concern among many and sometimes an emotional topic for a pregnant woman. We have created an unconventional guide to losing weight after pregnancy.

Don’t Gain Too Much Weight

One sure fire way to look great after having your baby is to try not to gain too much weight. Your doctor will want you to gain 25-30 pounds total. They will expect less if you are overweight and more if you are underweight. This can be achieved with healthy eating and doing exercises that are approved during pregnancy. Fortunately, this can be easy if you set limits early in your pregnancy. The best way to lose that baby weight is to make sure you don’t gain too much in the first place. Some women use pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever they want, and a lot of it. Don’t fall into this trap. Try to have healthy snacks on hand at all times during your pregnancy and always eat for nutrition for you and your baby. Not because it tastes good. It’s ok to have an occasional treat, but keep in mind, a healthy diet is the first step to battling baby fat.

Breastfeeding

Ok, so you did great during your pregnancy and ate all the right things, or if you didn’t that’s ok too, but now what? Well one of the greatest ways to burn calories right after delivery is… breastfeeding! That’s right, breastfeeding burns up to 500 calories per day. This is the easiest way to lose weight by doing nothing. If you have trouble breastfeeding, seek a lactation consultant or the healthcare provider that you saw during your pregnancy. You can also ask them any additional questions you have about breastfeeding.

Walking

Another way to get rid of those extra pounds with a new baby is to walk and not only walk, but wear your baby while walking. If it is warm outside, then that’s great. If not, head to your local mall or retail store and walk those calories off. The extra weight of your baby will aid in getting rid of those extra pounds. Just be sure you have good posture while walking as not to injure anything.

Take Your Vitamins

We sometimes overlook the simplest solution to a problem. So, why not take some vitamins and know your limits. A woman’s body after delivery is like a roller coaster. Many vitamins and minerals help control these imbalances. While taking a vitamin regimen that you have discussed with your doctor, also use portion control and exercise as usual. Everyone knows a healthy diet and exercise help. When your baby is napping, you can do a quick ten minute workout, then take a nap or clean.

Remember, every movement burns calories. So, try to stay active, this will also help with battling the postpartum blues. Just make good decisions throughout the day and those pounds will start melting away and you will have your pre-pregnancy body back, maybe even better!
